The department of Assamese is one of the most important departments in the college. Assamese is an important recognized language mentioned in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution. Besides the state language of Assam it is also the Lingua franca of north eastern region of India. Assamese is not only medium but also the core subject of all educational institutions of Assam. Likewise, Assamese is the core subject of the Arts Stream of our college. So, it is introduced from the inception of the college. There are two groups in Assamese-Language and Literature. At present there are 4(Four) teacher in the department. Among them 2 teachers are of Language group and 2 teachers are of Literature group. It is mentioned that 4 teachers are serving in the sanctioned post. Among them two teachers have obtained Ph.D.

5. To enhance the physical & mental fitness and develop socio-cultural qualities of students.
